Is A Car Dvd Player Your Next Choice Of Car Accessory? By Peter Finch Today's cars have certainly come a long way compared to their old time counterparts in the provision of creature comforts. Even so, some people are still not satisfied and want to add their own customizing touches.
One of the more popular internal things people are adding to cars these days is a car player. If you've ever been plagued by bored passengers (especially kids) you'll probably understand why.
If you're planning to take the family on a long car journey you'll certainly have to find some way of keeping the kids entertained and what better way than by letting them watch their favorite films on a car player?
Basically, there are two types of player that can be used in a car: portable systems and in-dash systems. Portable systems have the benefit of convenience (and they're cheaper too). You can take them out of the car and use them in other places. In terms of power for them, they can usually be plugged into the car's 12 volt dashboard-mounted power adaptor so you won't have to remember to bring plenty of batteries.
In-dash car players are hard-wired into the car's entertainment system which will have the ability to play CDs and have a radio too. The screen will either be in the center console, will descend from the car's roof, or it
will flip up from the dashboard. Obviously these systems can only be used in the vehicle itself, they are not detachable and portable in any way. On the plus side, you can't forget to bring them, or find that you don't have the right power cord.
The screens which are situated in the car's center console or which flip up from the dashboard can also double as GPS navigation system displays but, as I'm sure you can imagine, they can be distracting for the driver - how many of us can sit in a room when the TV's on and not look at it? The downside of the screens that descend from the car roof is that they can normally only be viewed by back seat passengers leaving front seat passengers looking for some other form of amusement.
The technology of car players is likely to show improvements over the years with units getting cheaper, lighter and smaller and therefore being made available as at least optional extras on a greater range of vehicles. It is certainly true that more manufacturers currently have plans to include a car player as an option in their latest automotive offerings.
The only problem you may encounter if you install a player in your car is that no one will want to drive, they'll all be sitting on the back seat enjoying a movie.
